1-Day Beginners Throwing Course

This 1 day course, which will be run by experienced Potter Jon French, is an opportunity to have a one to one experience for those who would love to learn how to throw with clay. This day course which takes place at the LoveClay workshop facility at Valentine Clays HQ in Fenton will give you knowledge of how to:

• Prepare clay (wedging and kneading)
• Centre the clay
• Throw cylinders with the aim of producing forms of even thickness
• Developing basic forms
• Wiring pots off the wheel

At the end of the course you will then have the choice of up to 2 pots that will be glazed and fired.

There are a maximum of 7 places available with each student having their own wheel for use throughout the day. Basic materials, tools and lunch will be provided.

The price for a 1 day beginners throwing course is £120 per person

Teacher Information

Jon French has over 30 years’ worth of experience having spent 29 years working for Wedgwood. He now runs his own successful business based at the historic Middleport Pottery. Jon has a great deal of experience as a teacher and works for several organisations within this role.
