This Ceramic Evening course is ideal for both beginners to the craft and those that have some ceramic experience but would like to learn to develop their ideas over a 10 week period. Whichever clay discipline you wish to develop and learn experienced potter Alex Shimwell will be on hand to help you to progress within this area whether you would like experience in throwing, slabbing, texturing, decorating or firing. The course will take place on Tuesday evenings at the LoveClay workshop facility at Valentine Clays HQ in Fenton.

Alex will be on hand to help you to develop you clay discipline through advice and knowledge where you will get to experiment with different clays & glazes during the course. There will also be an opportunity to raku fire towards the end of the course.

There are a maximum of 8 places available to ensure there is a one to one experience to help you to develop your ideas. Basic materials and tools will be provided. Please discuss further requirements with your tutor.

TEACHER INFORMATION:
The course will be run by trained potter and teacher Alex Shimwell who creates wheel thrown, functional and decorative ware at his studio in Matlock, Derbyshire. Alex originally studied ceramic design at Staffordshire University, and has since travelled to Japan, spending time with Numaguchi-San, a 7th generation Jomo ware potter, learning traditional techniques and researching the aesthetic ideas that informed traditional British studio ceramics. Alex also worked under the guidance of master potter Kevin Millward learning traditional, industrial throwing techniques.
