Private Viewing: Thursday 12th July
‘Our Ceramic Life’ is a collaborative exhibition of ceramics, photography and sound that focuses upon the ceramics industry and the current resurgence and rebirth that it is witnessing. Its aim is to challenge the way that we think about ceramics and how it forms part of much of our modern day life. The installation aims to engage children, young people and adults within Stoke-on-Trent and visitors to the region by raising awareness of the city’s rich ceramic heritage and exciting future opportunities
The collaborative exhibition is made up of 6 members including Our Lady’s Academy, Glebe Academy, Valentine Clays Ltd, ceramic artist Philip Hardaker, photographer Rosa Hardaker, and sound specialist John Shapter.
This extra-curricular, multi-arts, community project has been developed with the aim of show casing the many facets of ceramics and its uses, both functional, industrial and decorative.
Through an open and fun competition, 50 winners from both Glebe Academy and Our Lady’s Academy have been given the opportunity to recreate their designs with the help of ceramic artist Philip Hardaker at LoveClays new workshop facility. Philip has helped both schools create two installations which will represent each school and following the exhibition will feature in each school.
Photographic artist Rosa Hardaker has worked with the community and local industry companies to enhance the event and exhibition experience through her photography.
Local soundscape artist John Shapter has also created a sound installation to feature as part of the exhibition which has also been generated from ceramic factories and related venues. The aim is to enhance people’s perceptions and experience of an industry that is integral to the unique selling point of Stoke-on-Trent and a product that forms part of our everyday life in so many ways.
This exhibition would not have been possible without the support from the following companies and organisations:
- Wade Ceramics
- Emma Bridgewater

- Stoke-on-Trent City Council – Ward Fund
