FAQ

  • Do Throw a Pot Sessions run in the week?

Unfortunately not. Our 1 hour Throw a Pot Sessions run on Saturdays only. This is due to the amount of other courses we run throughout the week both daytime and evening from Mondays through to Sundays. We do plan to extend our studio in the not too distant future and this should allow us the freedom to offer multiple courses at once.

  • I'm a complete novice, will I make anything?

We have over 40 guests throwing pots at our Throw a Pot sessions on Saturdays and as yet, throughout the years we haven’t had anyone not manage to throw a pot. Granted, some aren’t works of art, but guests are always very surprised at their achievements! This is down to a mix of our relaxed environment and the sheer talent of our wonderful and very patient tutor team

  • What do I wear?

Clay can get everywhere, so we wouldn’t recommend attending in your Sunday best! Clay does wash out though so you don’t need to come in your worst wear and we do have toilets and lockers, should you wish to get changed afterwards. We would say though, is come in loose comfortable clothes. If you are pot throwing, avoiding long sleeves as they will most likely be covered in clay and skirts as you will need to straddle the potters wheel.

  • My Throw a Pot session starts at 11.30, what time should I arrive?

We ask that all guests arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before the session starts. This is due to many other sessions running that day and gives the tutors time to ensure the room is set up ready for your arrival. Our car park is open 30 minutes before the first session starts, so you are always welcome to park up earlier than your session and wait. There is plenty of free parking on site.

  • Is there parking on site?

We have parking right outside our ground floor studio for 25 cars and 2 disabled parking spaces. Parking is free and our site is easily accessible.

Throw a pot sessions have a maximum of 10 guests and specialists courses have a maximum of 20 guests so getting a parking space has not so far been an issue for any of our visitors.

  • My child is 8, if i book them on do i have to pay also?

Children are welcome to attend our Saturday Throw a Pot Sessions as long as accompanied by one adult. There is no charge for the adult to attend if just watching and not joining in. We due however strictly only allow one adult with each paying child due to space restrictions and the flow of the workspace. It can’t be additional adults and /or additional other children also.

  • Do you offer paint a pot?

At the moment, we have had to pause all Paint a Pot classes due to the popularity, demand and often waiting list for pottery courses based around throwing and hand-building. We do plan to extend our studio in the not too distant future and this should allow us the freedom to offer multiple courses at once and paint a pot sessions will be then revisited.

  • Do we have a cafe on site?

Unfortunately not, although it maybe something we look at in the future. We do offer tea and coffee making facilities for courses, but for our 1 hour Throw a Pot Sessions, there isn’t usually the time for drinks before or after the sessions and your hands will be far to occupied during the session!

  • When can I collect my pots?

The glazing and firing process takes approximately 4-6 weeks after your session or course. When your pots are ready the office will contact you to let you know via email. You can then collect during the following times:

    Tues-Thurs 10am-4pm
    Some Saturdays 11.30am – 3pm
HOWEVER this must be arranged by the office in advance no later than the Thursday of the week of collection.

Due to the number of pots we process, all pots are put into storage and must be moved from storage into the studio for the tutors to access and avoid class disruption (as the office isn’t open on Saturdays)

Therefore, if you turn up on a Saturday to collect without prior arrangement, we are very sorry, but the tutors won’t be able to assist you.

We must also have taken any balance payment for additional pots prior to collection if on a Saturday.
